Sunday, June 21: By Virginia Hill

Can we all be like Anna who by age 20 did more for humanity than most of us have done in their entire lifetime? Her story so powerful, so profound! I’m grateful to have heard it. I’m privileged to keep it. Telling a story has at least two purposes: 1. To remind people of the great courage that can hide within ordinary humans only to be revealed in times of tremendous pain, suffering, and danger! What an encouragement to know that this courage potentially resides in us all. The purpose and one equally important is the unfettered bounds of man’s cruelty upon his fellow man! It is a reminder, as much as we would like to believe not that this evil too resides in us all. Whether we are actively oppressing or watching it happen, it is evil to see our fellow man suffer and not intervene! Reflecting on the response of youth during the Holocaust, I wonder if their youthfulness made them oblivious to the perils of their resistance. I would much rather believe in their purity of heart and resolve. This inspires me to encourage the young people I serve to look at the problems of humanity with their hearts and resolve to take their place in history as champions of justice.
