It’s difficult to find the right words to describe the unimaginable atrocities that unfolded at Auschwitz. So many lives taken and countless families torn apart in the blink of an eye. Children were forced from their parents’ arms and thrown into a world filled with fear and uncertainty.

Today, I found myself reflecting on the pure, gentle innocence of a child. It’s haunting to think about the chaos they faced while crammed into trains, completely unaware of the fate that awaited them. In those moments, they believed that their parents would be able to protect them, that everything would somehow be alright.

Amidst the despair, these children created drawings that offered a glimpse into their innocent minds. Not the horrors surrounding them, but of their cherished toys, singing birds, and the comforting presence of nature. Their young minds struggled to grasp the reality they were trapped in. Perhaps, in a way, this ignorance was a small mercy.

It’s unfathomable to consider how anyone could inflict such cruelty upon another life. How could someone live with themselves after committing such horrible acts? These questions will continue to challenge us and remind us of the importance of compassion, empathy and kindness in our own lives.
