From Germany to My Children’s Hearts by Erin LaCkore

Since coming home from Germany, I have been trying to figure out how to put this experience into words. I am truly so grateful that I stepped out of my comfort zone and went on this trip. Not only did we visit so many historical and powerful landmarks we also bonded with total strangers and created beautiful friendships I will cherish forever.  When I came home my sons were eager to hear about my trip. I showed them all of the pictures/videos which opened up a huge Q&A about our ancestors, Jewish history, and so much more. They both told me they want to learn more. I never thought going on this trip could impact my children, but I have been pleasantly surprised how it has! Leaving my kids for 2 weeks felt like a lifetime, but clearly this trip benefited them as well. Now they want Tsipy to take them to Germany one day too! Coming home I have a much better understanding and appreciation of being Jewish. Being in the buildings and rooms where it happened is an experience I cannot fully put into words. I will cherish this trip forever. This experience has just scratched the surface and now I’m ready to continue exploring and digging into our roots.
